Online social commentary (media commentary):

One of my subscribers wanted me to fix his Honeybee King 2 Helicopter, so he sent it to me. This video shows what I found wrong. The only thing wrong was just that it was not set up properly.

First of all, let me stress that a lot of these so-called upgrades that sales people talk you into are useless. You will see why in this video.

2nd, the Honeybee King 2 is not a good heli to learn on.

Again, I say Learn on a VW, and if you never crash it, then you can buy the Porsche.

Most people also think they are more coordinated than they are with helis and find out the hard way in labor and parts that it would have been better to learn on something easy to start with, not a full blown 3-Dimensional Stunt flying helicopter.

Most people expect a delicate, lightweight machine to be able to withstand all kinds of abuse.

Remember, real helicopters cannot take any crashes either, so I dont know why you expect an 18-ounce machine to be indestructible! It is best to get lessons from an experienced pilot. You would not go jump into a real helicopter and expect you could fly it right away, so dont expect that with a model. It takes years for the majority to simply hover reliably, and gyros do not do exactly what you think or read that they can do.

They are simply a crutch.

I hope some of these tips help you decide and give you some insight and hopefully you can learn better.

Thanks for watching, please subscribe for more and happy flying.

Dave

Great video Dave! And agreed with all your coments on the description! I just love Helis and they are tough machines to learn to fly, its a great expirince to fly em but it takes lot of time and keeping in mind that little by little you may get there with helis, dont loose patiense. thanks again for all your help you have brought to a lot of people!!! thanks personaly cause I have no regrets on joining helis enthusiast! Great to see Jef to helping! Keep them comming Dave Great video! 5 star!
Great advice Dave I just bought my first Honey bee king 2 and it has the same tail boom. So I will be glueing my tail fins in place. I shall be using this video as reference to setting my bird up. Thanks Dave your the man when it comes to helis.
Thanks for the tips! I just purchase this heli, it is MY first. My dad has a coaxial I have taught myself on. I know these require patience to learn and I am all for that! Seems like a great learning experience. But I have one question. I have the Pro Gyro and there is a switch for Normal, and Reverse.Obviously, the manual doesnt say which it should be on, so could you provide info about this gyro? Thank you.
Hey Dave, blast from the past there with the King 2. I have someone offering to sell me one of these used / fixer upper. Is it still a viable helicopter? Kind of like the size of it and nostalgic value.
Hi Dave! Really enjoy your video's. I've been flying the KBK2 for about a year. Can I please get your 9 heli tips? Thank you very much...Keep posting videos I really enjoy them and I've learned alot!!!
Dave I gave you 5 stars on this one. It was VERY nice of you to tuneup one of your subscribers helis like that! I very much agree with your VW / Porsche statement in regards to trainer helis. I'd like your opinion sometime on the new foam bladed Kyosho trainer that just came out. Allegedly nearly as stable as a coaxial heli, which should be good for us newbies. TFTV
"Hi Dave

Very informative, I also have the HBK2 and a Lama V4. My Lama loses power after around 20 seconds to the point where it sinks slowly to the ground, even when the battery is fully charged. Do you think it's just the battery, or could ot be something else? The motors seem fine to me. Also, could I get your 9 tips? That would be great! Keep up the good work :)"
yet another great work Dave. they are so informative. can you tell me what stall is? and I am planning to go for a belt driven heli, can you suggest me which one to go for? I have a modest pocket. Thanks a lot.
Great video Dave and good advice as always mate,5*
"hi. nice video. i learnt alot from it.

im always having trouble keeping the tail of my hbk2 straight.
im always constantly turning the rudder left or right to keep a straight tail.

i can never just hover straight up without it starting to spin one way. and for me to correct it, it can take a bit of time sometimes. its not just a quick fix up. i hav to hold it there for a while before it straightens.
so do you have any help for me to get my tail to react quicker and better please.

thanks."
Great work 'technical handy dude'. All fixed and ready to be shipped. Glad I could help in the small way that I did. 5 stars!
"Thanks for the tutorial, im gonna look for more
Got the hbk2 today had a few euros to spare
I paid 250 euros for mine in town
Couldn't resist, never flown before
Hope i take to it, my new hobbie :)"
"you've done it again Dave, thanks for the brill advice on what not to get lol :p, ,now wonder why my lhs (local hobby store) doesnt sell honeybee's :p

great vid 5 stars dave."
"That was really cool you took in someones heli to fix for them.
Very cool!"
"the stock one works I know thats what I am using I wanted to see for myself if it would fly with what it came with. It does very well I may add. Thank you for sharing with all of us your knowledge.
Best regards Mr. Herbert maybe one day I will be in you area and we will meet take care.

"Hi Dave, I was wondering if this was a good helicopter to step up from a coaxial. I have flown the Blade cx, and cx2, and have spent countless hours on the simulator, so I think i have my corrdination down, do you think this would be a good stepup heli??

Thanks
Skyrovers"
powerful lessons. thanks so much. you are a very smart man.
NightFlyer, thanks for all the tips. I'm just getting to grips with my King 2. When you went to fly outside you said let's turn the Gyro off, is that possible with the standard Gyro?
TY for all the tips and tricks on these helicopters in general. I am still on a FP but did buy a Lightyl used Esky Honey bee King 2 CP for next year maybe :) We shall see. The guy put all CNC head parts on it so it is out of whack so I am going to follow everything you put out there for hints and help. Thanks again NightFlyyer..
"well dave i may have made you some money. everybody wants you to fix their heli. and i don't blame them. YOUR VERY GOOD AT WHAT YOU DO!!!!!!!
thanks alot for the help."
Dave, I'm curious how much slip is acceptable when counterrotating the tail rotor. I've been having tail control issues and have been suspecting slippage, but when I turn it like you do in the video, there's a definite "jolt" as the tooth slips. So how much is enough?
Hey dave i was just re-reading my manual for the HoneyBee FP and i noticed they made the same mistake in that with the controls! So it looks like they have put that in the manuals for all of their range of helis.
Make sure your throttle and throttle trim are ALL the way down before connecting the battery, you should get the solid green
Flybydanny- Well, it depends on your understanding of these helis. I would always take it slowly, even if you are a pro in the sim. If I were you, I would start with a coaxial heli. Try a Heli Max Axe EZ.
Just fixed my HBK2 after sitting on my garage shelf for 8 years.  Replaced the receiver with a AR610, fixed plate pitch and leveled all arms.  setup a new program on my Dx6i and within 2 hours modding other helicopter parts into it, I had that beast out and flying again.  Felt damn good to see a piece of crap helicopter fly again, I never had the greatest luck with it and had issues since day one.  But now i really have the pitch tracked in and a solid Tx/Rx running it.  I will say 3D on this copter is way to hard, and very methodically slow (even with rates and travel adjustment maxed), which i cant tolerate.  I'm just gonna keep it as a light sport flyer for fun, and now its back in my main helicopter line of 30 er so aerial rc's.  2-10 year old esky batteries, and they work perfect still? i was amazed, 0 cell loss on my new balance charger.  Cheerz
"i had exactly the same problem.
for me the solution was easy, yet i overlooked it.
my engine cable was not connected properly, all i did when i found out was push the cables together properly. (make sure your heli is switched off though, otherwise the rotor could spin round with Chuck Noris force and hit you."
"Hi there Dave,

how do we request your flying tips? I also bought a Honey Bee king and learned the hard way that it's harder than it looks to fly a RC. I broke mine and am waiting for new tail boom and full head set.

Thanks"
"HI nightflyyer.
i want to step up to 6 ch helicopters,
i've been flying for over a year now with loads and loads of hours on simulator.
would this be a good helicopter?(mild 3d)
Thanks:)"
I had the where the ball link had slipped inside and was on the bar, i had a flight and it was all over the place and took a lot more movements on the stick to keep the heli level, luckily when i checked it over after the flight i noticed it straight away. This was on a Honeybee FP by the way so the same make of heli.
yay i got my hbk2 yesterday!!! its so cool.... thanks for the 9 tip u sent me
Ah ha! Your just the man im looking for! I just purchased this heli from ebay used. I cant get the swashplate level i have no clue what im doing wrong. Id LOVE to send it to you
Dave you're the best!!!!
"hello Dave i have got a question with my honeybee king 2 i was just practising flying it went pretty well but than i changed the battery and when i connected the battery the gyro was not steady red it is slow blinking and the tail-servo is not reacting to anything can you please help me?

Thanks in advance"
Hi one question - How many minutes should I charge my battery ?
so dave for a second time pilot ive flown my firebird phantom my havoc heli my cheap piece of sh#@ heli and a lama v4. i got really good with all of them and flew em till they died except my lama cause thats still perfect and i fly it a lot still. i have flown the lama for about 2 years and got it down pat. so the question is honey bee fp or king 2. the price is about the same so thats not a problem.
"Hello Mr. Herbert:
I realy enjoy all your videos. I also own a Honeybee King 2, it is not a 2.4 model. I agree with you this is not a helicopter for a beginer. I have been on the sim for almost 2 years. I am starting to hover my king and the motor, esc and the battery getting very hot. In normal I a set a 0 pitch at the botton of the stick and 2 degrees at mid stick. When I hit the 3D switch and put the stick in the middle I am at 0 pitch."
Good eye Jeff. I just got the Esky Belt CP and the manual is written with same errors. Thanks for looking out guys.
thanks man i had the throttle just a lil bit up thank you very much :D
@NightFlyyer hi bud, how can i stop my king 2 spinning round and round? as soon as it starts to lift it seems it wants to flip over or spin outa control?
you mentioned in the video that you have another video describing how helicopters fly and I've always been interested in how they work... can you please tell me what the name of the video is? thanks!
I got a blade 400. Its pretty good, but im not exactly to crazy about the gyro. I threw in a 401...and now it can come pretty close to my trex 450!!!
Hi niteflyer - I got an esky king 2 - worked right out of the box - I tried turning it on this morning and all it does now is heat up the speed controller - and seems to not spool up at all - only some sudden jerk movements on blades - I did not crash it just all of a sudden did that. Any suggestions? - thx markus
Hello, thanks for the tips!
hey nightflyyer, what gyro is better forht e hbk2, the logitech 2100t or the futaba gy401?
wow good man to fix up a helicopter of someone you dont even know!
my thinking is that the king 2 is bigger more stable and i can expand on it if i want but with the fp ill have it and be fine but w/e . ive also heard the king is more stable so would it be better to start with in these helis?ive also heard that the fp is just great and neads nothing but the king2 NEEDS a brushless motor right away so whats ur verdict?
Plus the gyro is blinking red at same time - almost took my hands off since the blades spooled up for half a turn at full speed for a second! - markus
ive flown my hbk2 12 times and well... my stock king 2 motor smoks after a 5 min hover and it doesnt even give off much power when i have the hov. trim in the midle at 0! should i switch out the motor or could it be that somethings bent?
The radio work fine, but the programing when you hit the switch creates a big difference the the pitch of the maine blades. The tracking is horable its a shame. My heli came with the cheap gyro only rate. Thats fine I like rate you are in control. But to set it up, like you said earlier use a lazy Susan and move the servo up and back til you get it to hold the tail in place.
"Hello i have 1 question i just buyd my
E-Sky HoneyBee King II now what is the most normal glitches on it ????"
when i turn off the control all servos begin to shake for few seconds.
A question reguarding the transmitter. You said the hover pitch should be set to zero but I see on my transmitter it has a +/- so do Set it in the middle or at full -? Thanks in advance. ( and managed my first proper flight with my HB FP yesterday ....and crashed! lol but I think it was due to being stunned that I flew it and kinda lost concentration. But the new parts are on their way) cheers Dave.
wow .. great dave , Thanks !! im waiting for my motor arrive and start learnning hover :P !!
"amiruldaigander
Buying a HBK2 or any other collective pitch helicopter is not a good idea for a beginner.
You'll either want a Lama co-axial helicopter.
Or a Honeybee Fixed Pitch to start with and a simulator as well.
As a beginner starting with a more advanced CP heli may discourage you and will surely put a dent in your pocket.
Fixed Pitch helicopters are alot more forgiving than a CP helicopter."
"@luki01111

its the same
if your heli has a long antanna wire , make sure to mount it whit the antanna tube"
im not nightflyyer, but i have a hbk2 and i always charge it until the charger says its ready (the green light is solid green).
hey has anyone installed a new cnc head for their hbk 2 if so is there a video on it because im havin some probs
whats the best site to buy R/C aircrafts from? rather than ebay
i can't believe you fly in 14mph of wind with an rc helicopter
thanks i use to have the antena from the reciver on that metal bar on a tail and now its sorted tahnks for help.
Hi my helicopter goes to the side when I lift it up, what would the problem be. Thank you
so could you fix mine? i have the same helicopter How much for fixing it?
thanks for your help
"dude i wanted to buy this, but after i saw this vid i was like O.o i'll just take the honeybee fp.... can u gimme advice?
becuase im just starting with this stuff.. i can control lama v3.. but never really try 6 channel heli's.. so should i take a honeybee fp????? pls reply this comment thank you =D"
hey dave why does my brushless motor sometimes spin and sometimes spin slow
Hi. I have one also. Can I send mine to you. I am having a lot of trouble with the gyro. Can you look at mine. It has been sitting on the shelf for 3 years and I am working on it now. I am a retired teacher.
i have a blade cx2 and i can fly it well now and i what somthing more now so do you think the honey bee king 2 is a good choise
i have a problem with my honey been king. servos seem to be working fine. i can move all servos with the control, but when i try to fly it motor just will not move. can any one help me to solve this problem? thanks.
thankk you now i can fly my heli
what about a belt cp v2 then?
Also could you please also send me the 9 tips? Thanks
It can be done with the $25.00 dollor gyro, then later get the more expencive gyro you dont need HH for what use Newbees are doing. Read read read there is a heli mag out there find it RC Heli and board RR and read and when your done reading read some more there is a lot of information out there and get a better radio that can be adjusted,
how do you make more head speed
"@luki01111 check your battery's , if you have 35mhz alway's mount your antenna on your heli whit the antanna tube , and alway's completly slide out your transmitter antanna
35 mhz can glitch when standing next to a metal object , if you have 2.4 ghz then contact esky

greatings Lordlapswans"
The instructions are that way because esky indcluded a MODE1 Instruction booklet vs a MODE2...
dave, you forgot to check the center of gravity?! ;)
i wanna clarify to you can we trimmed the trottle while not flying
Can you show me how to pull the tailboom ? plzzzz i tried but i cant pull it
"I have a small throttle problem, I set the switches to how you have them in this video and the motor does not work! I have to have the THR switch in the transmitter to REV
Why is this?"
dave after i had blade track my heli why does it started to spin like crazy before it doent act like this
i got a question about the e sky honeybee king 2 why does the 3 cell lipo battery expand ??? i got 2 new but im worried that they will expand too
Can I send you my Firebird Phantom? It needs repair to the boom and to the tail. I will pay shipping and parts!!
Dear sir: I have bought my honey bee king 2 about 1 year ago, and I have not been able to fly because when I begin to fly the tail servo does not respond to my radio control and it seems to be frozen, I have a 2,4Ghz esky radio controller, and I have already change the gyro for the new esky gyro, the speed controller and the tail servo. Thanks, I hope you can help me, I am desperate...
how do i avoid the expanding and should i stop the rotor if it has poor power left so it cant lift anymore should i just stop flying then or??+
no i didnt break it, but im tired of this rate crap. both gyro's have great reviews and all of the youtube comments are great for both of them. however, rhe 2100t is cheaper. haha and finally, what one is more likely to survive a crash?
thanks a lot!
thank you so muchhhhhhhhh!!
"Sorry, was replying to someone who wanted the hbk2 as first heli. (Posted wrong area).
Very nice vid, btw."
"ok, i shal do.

thank you very much for your help. i appreciate it.

hansi."
I read in a forum that R/C helicopters can be more difficult to learn then the real deal. Outside of killing oneself in the real thing, is there any truth to that statement?
"ive got one of these helicopters,
i cannot get it to lift off even on full throttle, can anyone through some advice my way as its really getting me down!!!!!!!!!"
and 1 more thing i cant solve this problem why my honey bee king 2 cant throttle sometimes it can throttle(i mean the blade spinning)sometimes the blade spin and sometime not
I crashed my Big Lama and the wings are broken..... There were no tools in the package when I got it so thers no way to repair the wing... Any suggestions?
Personally, I hate this heli. I got it with 2 servos that wer unfunctional, and one of the trim tabs (for elevator) was stuck! I cracked open the case to see what was wrong, and there was this pin jammed in there. I couldnt get it out though. I just sent it backa nd asked for my money back, which i did not get!!
"your a good man nightflyer !!! helping that poor man whit his heli , but there whas nothing wrong whit that heli that the owner of that heli must know before even flying whit that !! its dangerus !!!!

and @ driftking just just samething that fits your srewhole its just a srew man , if you realy whant to fly you all have to know how to fix them and if you don't even know how to fix the broken whings ,then you better stop now and sell it

YOU WILL CRASCH YOUR HELI"
hi nightflyer. i crashed a esky belt pc. would like to fix it for me?
hi there, can i have the 9 tips fromu too plz? thans... i just recieve mine 2 days ago too... but the sad things is after i cheage my baterry, wanted to fly, and the damn motor fried up... :( crap...!
"gyro normally are flashing fast and then goes to solid but mine dosen't do that its flashing fast for 6 sec and then its flashing slower and it dosn't go solid.

thanks!
i want the 9 heli fying tip thanks
